A Message from Mr. Tipps
Are you ready for some football??? I have to tell you, I'm already having withdrawal attacks! Having been a Dallas Cowboys fan since 1965, I've had my share of disappointments since the glory days of the early 90's, but that still does not diminish my love for the game. This year's game promises to be a very entertaining game, a rematch of one where no one gave the Giants a chance against the potent Patriot offense from that year's team. Who will win is anyone's guess, but it will take a combination of will, skill, luck, but most of all inner determination.
The reason I bring up the Super Bowl is that very few people expected the Giants to be one of the teams competing for the Lombardi Trophy this year. At mid-season, they were a group of underachievers who could not "find their way." While they possessed talent at many positions, they were not playing and producing as a team, a solid unit. However, the last four games of the season they won some crucial ball games, and in many cases by a rather large margin, all because they began to focus on their goal. This is a perfect example of what people can accomplish when something is really important to them. Focus, hard work, determination
this is what sets the "doers" apart from the "viewers."
The same can be said for each student who starts their course of study at Miller-Motte College. One of the questions asked time and again is, "Why is it that some students complete what they started, while many others don't?" No matter how you slice it, dice it, and throw it in a Veg-o-Matic, it all boils down to how important your training is to you. I remember a young man who started classes about 13 years ago, and he was taking a class that I was teaching. I thought to myself then, "There's no way that this guy is going to make it!" As the quarter progressed, I began to see some subtle changes in him. I began to see just a little self confidence beginning to come through. By the time the quarter had ended, my impressions of him had changed. As the next few quarters progressed, he became one of our better students. He completed one program, started another one, completed that one, and then began another program. Focus, hard work, determination will reap great rewards for you in the future. It simply depends on how much you desire it.
For most Americans, we are focusing on completing and submitting our taxes. I wanted to do a little work on mine last night, and when I started my desktop computer I had an error message and couldn't get it to start up. After working with it for about 15 minutes, I decided that I would need to take it in and get it repaired. Why? That computer is eight years old and has served its purpose well, but all of my tax information, contained in Turbo Tax, is on that computer. I had just downloaded the program last Saturday and had input a great deal of data
so somehow I've got to get the "missing/corrupted file" repaired/restored so that I can complete the task. THEN I'll think about replacing the relic.
Speaking of taxes, many of you have inquired about your 1098-T forms for your taxes. I was informed late last night that these forms are now available electronically to all current students through the link on the Student Portal or directly from Sallie Mae's website. Former students will receive a hard copy in the mail at the address on file in Campus Vue. All forms will be printed and mailed on or by January 31st.
So, as we begin this January quarter
welcome to our new students! Focus on your goal of becoming a medical assistant, surgical technologist, massage therapist, dental assistant
whatever your goals to achieve may be, keep that focus alive! Don't let the "taxing" work of school or life deter you from becoming what you want to be.
We' ll talk again!
